First off, a HUGE thanks and shoutout to Community Chevrolet of Spencer, Indiana and the owner of this car, for allowing me to film this review of the all-new 2020 Mid-Engine C8 Corvette! Community Chevrolet of Spencer 180 Fletcher Ave Spencer, IN 47460 https://www.communitycars.com/chevrolet 812.829.4843 The new C8 Corvette is probably the most radical new design of Corvette since the C4 launched in late 1983 as a 1984 model. While the C4 was more evolutionary rather than revolutionary, it WAS a major departure from the C3 styling, inside and out, with large amounts of resources going to engineering and development. The same can be said of the C8... However, this design is more revolutionary than evolutionary. At first glance, you almost think you are looking at either a Ferrari or McLaren, as design elements are very much present from those makes. Another focal area is the length of the front clip. Due to the mid-engine layout of the C8, the front end didn't need to carry any engine, so it's much shorter than any other Corvette. That engine...It's a purpose built 6.2L LT2 V8 that was built specifically for mid-engine applications and dry-sump lubrication. As amazing as this engine is, it still retains its pushrod architecture, something that ALL Corvette engines have. The transmission is a hyper-quick Dual-Clutch 8-Speed Tremec M1L unit that features twin shafts and clutches with odd gears on one and even gears on the other with reverse, essentially making it a dual-transmission. The results are lightning quick, precise shifts with no lag. Inside may as well be from a fighter jet, because that is what it looks like. Very sporty GT1 seats hold you in place, even through the fastest turn, and these are standard! You can opt for 2 other types of seats as well. The Dashboard is all LCD with a very cool start-up animation that highlights the mid-engine design and carries a completely reconfigurable layout within all driving modes. Overall analysis of the C8? It's my favorite Corvette to date!
